Feeling stressed out? Get ready to breathe a sigh of sweet relief…

Mar222012

StressFix_orig_largeAveda announces the launch of Stress-Fix™, a body care line with an aroma clinically proven to relieve feelings of stress. The ECO-CERT certified organic line includes Stress-Fix™ Body Lotion, Stress-Fix™ Soaking Salts and Stress-Fix™ Concentrate. The products are manufactured at Aveda’s corporate headquarters in Blaine, Minnesota, an ECO-CERT certified facility.

“Forty-four percent of adults today suffer adverse health effects from stress and many do not have the opportunity to effectively recover,” says Marianne Knutson, vice president global marketing. “The Aveda Stress-Fix™ products and spa treatment offer our guests a means to restore balance and ease the negative effects of stress; aroma, breath and touch stimulate relaxation and an awareness of the connection between body and mind.”

To help that rising population of over-stressed clientele, Aveda Salon/Spas will offer a Stress-Fix™ Body Massage treatment to support the stress recovery process through the power of touch. This massage features the Professional Stress-Fix™ Aroma Blend and comprises Swedish massage and deep tissue techniques to reduce muscular tension and increase circulation in high stress areas of the body, along with a foot reflexology treatment and acupressure points. The treatment also guides guests through a meditation to enhance the benefits of stress relief and increased energy.

Working in collaboration with world-renowned Clinical Aromaologist Pierre Franchomme, the Aveda Botanical Aroma Lab created this clinically-proven stress-relieving aroma using the science of aromaology and the power of pure essential oils. Aveda partnered with Plantes Aromatiques du Diois to source the certified organic lavender, lavandin and clary sage from France, a partnership which ensures the highest quality in essential oils that can be traced from Soil to Bottle.

The ECO-CERT organic certification was obtained under ECO-CERT Greenlife, and the logo is featured on Stress-Fix™ packaging. In order to receive ECO-CERT organic certification, a beauty product must meet or exceed the following standards: 95 percent of the product must be of natural origin; 95 percent of plant materials must be certified organic; 10 percent of the total ingredients must be certified as organic; and the product must be manufactured in a facility that meets ECO-CERT’s standards.

A lipstick is always a quick pick-me-up, but Aveda's Uruku Lip Pigment, $14, helps lift the spirits of millions. Fifteen years ago, Aveda's founder encountered the Yawanawá tribe in Brazil. The tribe was dispersed after losing much of its land to rubber plantations, explains Chuck Bennett, vice president of earth and community care at Aveda. "Culturally, they were on the verge of extinction." To support the tribe, Aveda began purchasing urukum seed from the tribe. The antioxidant-rich seed is used for the tribe's body-painting rituals because of its vibrant red pigment, which Aveda now uses in its Uruku makeup line. Aveda has also initiated local social projects and school development and has provided equipment for urukum production. The goal: "We're working to move beyond the charitable relationship so they can become a fully sustainable community," says Bennett. The tribe has recently secured the rights to 125,000 acres of sacred land (for a total of 450,000), reestablishing their sense of community.
